2003 Alumnus of the Year
DR. DAVID BLACK IS A 1971 graduate of Lee who later
went to earn M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Black has
distinguished himself in the world of Christian
higher education by serving as president of two
Christian institutions, including eight years at
Lakeland College in Wisconsin and for the past seven
years at Eastern University in Pennsylvania. He has
also been vice president at the University of Rio
Grande and Lincoln Memorial University.
His accomplishments and service on distinguished
boards are exemplary. Some of them include the board
of Sojourners, Evangelicals for Social Action, and
Sider Center for Public Policy. He is an advisor to
Campolo Ministries, Nueva Esperanza and the
Institute for Global
Engagement. He has established the Templeton Honors
College, School of International Leadership and the
Campolo School for Social Change at Eastern. The son of Dr. and Mrs. Hubert
Black, longtime faculty at Lee, David is married to Valerie and they have two
grown sons.
